ALA – Living and Working in Cumbria

A few weeks on from Cumbria Day, our born and bred Cumbrian director Byron Tyson shares his thoughts on living and working in this special county: 

I was fortunate enough to be born in South Lakeland and I have always lived and worked locally.

Living here has always been a pleasure and I love to get out walking.

Last year I tackled the Cumbrian Way over three days which is an amazing route right through the heart of the Lakes taking in some of the most spectacular scenery the Lakes has to offer.

Working here is great, the Cumbrian construction industry is a small, close knit business community and one where everyone knows everyone. Handshakes, trust and personal reputation still mean something here.

Working for clients in our field, we often shoulder serious responsibilities and we take that responsibility seriously. I am fortunate to count many of the areas contractors as clients, I care about them and I care about the local construction industry.

For me Cumbria is not a ‘business opportunity’, or some ‘satellite office’ it is where my family, friends and business associates live and we are all invested in local area.

ALA  has deep roots in Cumbria starting with an office on Pier Lane, Arnside in the late 90s, to Clawthorpe Hall at Burton-in-Kendal. Now with purpose built offices at Kirkby Lonsdale and a growing team of local talent we are continuing to further establish and develop the business in Cumbria.

I am proud that we support local businesses and local people wherever possible and I am extremely proud of the positive contribution we make to South Lakeland.

I am really excited about our future, which is looking increasingly bright and I would particularly encourage local ambitious, driven and positive people, who want to work in this fantastic industry, or those that already do, to come to the Kirkby Lonsdale office and discuss joining the ALA team.
