History
1996
ALA was formed by Adrian Lamb from his kitchen table in Beetham, Cumbria. Following his extensive experience working on major pipelines as a Quantity Surveyor, he provided commercial management and dispute resolution solutions to the oil and gas pipeline industry.
1997 - 2001
ALA grew and the first office was opened in Arnside. During this period, ALA was involved in the commercial and claims management for three major large diameter cross country gas pipelines on behalf of major contractors Alfred McAlpine / PPS GmbH Joint Venture and McConnell Dowell.
2002 - 2006
The company continued to grow and went from strength to strength, successfully securing multiple overseas contracts. Through hard work and providing a results driven quality service, ALA expanded internationally undertaking commercial and dispute resolution projects in Russia, Isle of Man, Ireland and the USA.
2007 - 2011
New offices were opened in Cumbria, Preston and Essex to service clients and keep up with the company's rapid growth. ALA worked hard to implement processes and procedures and secured ISO9001 accreditation. Focusing on construction claims and adjudications, ALA had several high profile successes.
2011
Byron Tyson joined the ALA team, later becoming a Director and playing a key role in developing the business. Work loads increased and ALA was working in South Africa on one of the largest and most complex major pipeline projects in the world, as well as in Qatar on Barwa Commercial Avenue on the world's longest building.
2012
Karen Turlay-Rose joined ALA as the Recruitment Director, playing a major part in sourcing talent, building and developing business relationships and providing support to staff and Directors. ALA opened new high profile offices in central London, the Strand.
2012 - 2014
ALA continued to have success in domestic and international markets. Notably, securing a major project at Runcorn Energy from Waste plant, the largest of its type in Europe. ALA deployed a multidisciplinary team of 20 staff on this major project, which became the first of many EfW projects for ALA.
2014
Tom Lamb joined the family business in 2014, having successfully earned a first class LLB from the College of Law in London, and completing four years as a solicitor for the distinguished international London law practice, Fladgate LLP.
2015 - 2016
ALA continued to expand, forming new and lasting business relationships with key clients, locally and internationally. Major projects undertaken in this period included the prestigious Windermere Boat Museum, The Shangri La Hotel at the Shard, the Olympic Stadium conversion and BP's Khazzen Pipeline in Oman.
2017
It was a big year for ALA - new offices in Trafalgar Square, London were secured, as well as a move to larger, purpose built offices at Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria. Adrian Lamb sadly passed away following treatment for an aggressive form of cancer, and Tom Lamb took over the reins as Managing Director.
2018 - 2020
ALA completed a comprehensive rebranding, invested in new technology and gained industry recognised accreditations. ALA launched a Degree Apprenticeship scheme and developed the #ALA25 business plan, which provides strategic direction for the business and leadership team.
2021
ALA secures major pipeline projects internationally. Warrington office doubles in size. Dan Harrison, Nigel Jackson, Richard Elston, Martin Redman and John Naughton are promoted to Associate Director. ALA develop in-house Expert Delay capabilities with employed forensic planners. ALA secured a framework for commercial services in the Nuclear sector. The inaugural ALA Team Building day is held in the Lake District.
2022
The Warrington office doubles in size again, staff headcount at over 30. ALA moves the head office, to larger premises at Clawthorpe Hall. ALA are invited to join IPLOCA and attend the annual convention in Prague. Byron Tyson becomes a CEDR accredited mediator. Several of the team become MRICS , MCIArb and MCInstCES.
2023 - Present
ALA completed the acquisition of Morham + Brotchie, a historic quantity surveying and cost consultancy based in central Edinburgh. This increased collective headcount to more than 50, and scaled capabilities of both firms in Scotland and England. ALA's objective is to continue building a stronger, larger and better business that is the market leader in our chosen sectors.
