Commercial Director Byron Tyson celebrated a significant milestone in September. It is an impressive 10 years since he began working with ALA, and five since he became a director.

To celebrate this milestone Byron was presented with a Harrods champagne hamper on Wednesday by Practice Manager Julie Stott.

Initially engaged as a consultant, Byron became an employee and director of ALA in 2016.

In his time with ALA Byron has developed a particularly strong network of clients in his home county of Cumbria, whilst also working on major disputes nationally and internationally.

Byron specialises in construction claims and disputes. He has played a lead role in resolving construction disputes on projects including:

• A Norman Foster-designed flagship high-rise in central London
• A major commercial development in Qatar
• Windermere Jetty Museum of Boats, Steam and Stories
• Runcorn Energy from Waste Plant (the largest in Europe at the time)

In one of his more interesting disputes Byron flew to Vienna for a pre-arbitration hearing which settled on the court steps prior to the meeting.

Managing Director of ALA Tom Lamb said:

I first met Byron in 2008. ALA were engaged to work for Cumbria construction contractor Team Northern, where Byron was a director. A lot has changed since then! In his time at ALA he has gone from strength to strength. He is a real asset to ALA and I have been lucky enough to work particularly closely with him for the last few years.

His construction law knowledge is second to none but more importantly he has an innate ability to get to the heart of commercial issues on construction claims immediately. His understanding of what is important to clients and his pragmatic way of achieving those goals is an exceptional talent.

Byron and I share a vision for the future of ALA and he has played a key part in our recent and continued growth. Here’s to another 10 years!
