Director of People Karen Turlay-Rose is celebrating a significant milestone this February. It is an impressive 10 years since she began working with ALA.

To celebrate this milestone Karen was presented with a ten year old bottle of vintage champagne, a fitting gift to mark the occasion.

Initially working in financial services recruitment, Karen quickly adapted to the construction sector after forming a close friendship with ALA’s founder Adrian Lamb.

Over the past ten years Karen has been vital to the success of ALA. Karen has developed meaningful relationships with a network of talent, clients and she is always looking to meet more people. Recently Karen has taken on a Director of People role with ALA, becoming very involved in providing support to our employees as well as helping to find the best new people to join our team. Karen  has formed a support network for our apprentices and has taken a mental health first aid course, becoming our mental health champion and providing assistance, support and counsel to our team.

Karen is also involved with the British Institute of Recruiters, being both a Fellow and a National Liaison Ambassador for the organisation.

As a point of first contact with the business for many of our contacts, Karen plays an important role. No one who has met her could forget her enthusiasm and sense of humour. More than a few employees have told me that Karen’s down to earth attitude and honest approach was really refreshing and helped them make the decision to join ALA.

As ALA is growing significantly we need to attract and support more and more people.  Karen has been instrumental in attracting talent and building a positive culture that makes ALA a place people really want to work. Karen has played a key part in our history and will be a big part of our next chapter as move towards a team of 100 direct employees.. Here’s to another 10 years!

Our 5 year plan- ALA25 sets goals to improve each area of the business. Goal one is to have a team of 100 directly employed staff and Karen will be instrumental in delivering this objective.
