What do you enjoy most about your line of work?
I really enjoy assisting in the procurement of civils projects. Since working for Farrans Construction on the Tees Pipeline for Northumbrian Water I have been heavily involved in the procurement. By dealing with sub-contractors and speaking with Farrans staff to understand the required scope I have developed my pipeline knowledge and a good understanding of what goes into procuring civils projects. I am looking forward to taking this knowledge forward to other projects in future.
Out of work, what do you do for fun?
I enjoy playing golf every weekend, as well as 5 a-side football mid-week. When I joined ALA I was able to move to Manchester as I work out of their Warrington office. I love going to restaurants and I’m spoilt for choice with the great selection in Manchester.
What is the best part about working for ALA?
Being surrounded by great people who are always there to help. I have recently commenced with RICS chartership. Senior members of staff in our Warrington office are currently guiding me along my journey, helping me to understand and teach what is required of me to achieve one of my career goals.
What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?
Working through the pandemic as it has forced me to adapt to a different working culture and develop my communication skills, something which has since help me progress and evolve in my role since returning to the office and working with clients on live projects.
What is your favourite work-related achievement?
Achieving my undergraduate Quantity Surveying degree at Northumbria University. I now hope to push towards obtaining my Masters in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution following completion of my RICS Chartership.
What is your favourite non-work-related achievement?
Shooting a 75 at Eaglescliffe Golf Course.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Heading towards a Senior QS role and working alongside ALA staff in Adjudications. I would like to become a mentor for junior staff at the company, helping to guide them through the start of their career and sharing my experiences and knowledge from when I first began my career.
What is the most important thing to you as a person?
The most valuable thing to me is happiness. Of all the other things that are important to me, being part of a team and having good work ethic really stand out.
How are you finding life at ALA on a day-to-day basis?
I am enjoying day to day operations at ALA, establishing strong relationships with the client. My current work is challenging yet rewarding. Working along side a team of QS’s is a great environment to be in, I have picked up and learnt so much from conversations held in our office. This alongside with visiting our client’s site a couple of times a week is the perfect environment for me to grow and apply what I have learnt thus far.
What is your favourite film, song and food?
Film: Django Unchained
Song: ‘Wish you were here’ by Pink Floyd
Food: Indian takeaway and Chicken Parmesan (Teesside Delicacy).
